What is Consignment?

A consignment arrangement is an agreement where you, the consignee, provide your goods to Renascence Studio, the consignor, for the purposes of selling your consigned goods with us while retaining ownership of them until the goods are sold and the sale is made final.

As the consignor, Renascence Studio acts as your agent; we advertise, display, and sell the goods on your behalf.

We receive a commission per item sold on your behalf. Renascence Studio will finalise your payout less our commission once the consigned goods are sold, shipped and have been paid for by the purchaser, transferring title of the consigned goods from you to the purchaser.

Why should I consider consigning my goods?

A consignment arrangement can be beneficial to the Consignee. Here are the main ones:

  1. Your goods gain exposure to potential customers through our networks, social platforms and our ongoing advertising and marketing efforts.
  2. You do not need to outlay any money on preparing your item for sale unless you do not have proof of purchase or other legitimate form of authentication.
  3. That’s right…no overheads! These are our responsibility, and precisely why we have a commission structure: to facilitate overheads associated with processing, advertising, marketing, showing, insuring, and shipping your consigned goods.
  4. This is an excellent alternative to having to sell them yourself or having to store them because you just don’t have the luxury of time, patience, or the skills and resources to sell to the right market.
  5. If we choose to market your goods it generally means there is demand for them. This means you have a good chance of unlocking the equity in your valuables.

What are the minimum conditions for goods to be accepted by Renascence?

Following are the preconditions you will need to meet if you would like us to consider consigning your items:

  1. We currently only accept authenticated designer bags, jewellery and accessories. See the 'Product categories & brands we accept' list and register for future updates.
  2. Goods must be consignment ready, in very good to excellent condition. We will not accept goods with major irreversible damage; and goods that have been significantly altered from their original state.
  3. When completing our consignment form, we require consignees to provide full disclosure on the physical condition of the item, including but not limited to the following:
- Interior and/or exterior stains and marks, and/or scratches
- Visible wear and tear.
- Water damage
- Discolouration (this includes discolouration in metal)
- Known alterations or modifications made to the item.
  1. Consignees must provide valid proof of authenticity. This can either be the original purchase receipt or an up-to-date and valid certificate of authenticity. Contact us via consign@renascencestudio.com.au if you would like more information on getting your items authenticated.

What should I include in my description of goods to be consigned?

Include the brand, the model, the condition of the item and the extra's. The more detail you provide, the more accurately we can value your goods.

How long are consigned goods listed for?

We list all consigned goods for an initial period of 90 days, anticipating that all goods sell within that period. If not, we give you the option at that time to either reduce the price; keep the item on the website at the same price; or have the item removed with no commission charge.

Do I need to get my goods authenticated?

Even if you are confident that your goods are genuine and you do not have your original proof of purchase or authentication, you will need to get them authenticated by an authorised 3rd party authenticator before we can accept them.

If you are unsure about how to go about authenticating your item/s, feel free to contact us via consign@renascencestudio.com.au and we will be happy to send you recommendations of professional authenticators who you can contact to get it done.

Otherwise, we can arrange this on your behalf for $70.00 per item.

What happens if my goods are proven to be a replica?

You will be charged a $250.00 processing and handling fee per item.

Can I hold onto my goods once they have been consigned?

Yes, however, we have strict requirements that need to be met by consignees who choose to keep the goods in their possession. The following conditions apply for agreements where consigned goods are held by the consignee during the agreement period:

  • The consignee must be contactable during the agreement period, and they must ensure that they can have the consigned goods available to us for final processing within 48hrs of being notified that the goods have been sold.
  • The consignee must maintain the original condition of the consigned goods as described and photographed upon entering into the agreement.
  • The consignee must notify us immediately if they become aware of any modifications to the consigned goods; damage, alterations, loss, theft or any other changes that might void or alter the original listing.
  • If goods are returned to us for purchaser handover but are found not to be in their original condition as represented in the listing, this becomes a misrepresentation of the product listing.

Refer to TOC.

How do I get paid?

After the sale is confirmed, payment has cleared and the goods have been received by the purchaser, Renascence Studio will process your payment into your nominated bank account. Please check with your nominated bank for processing times as clarification on how long it will take for payment to clear into your account.

Do I get to set the list price?

We are more than happy to discuss your expectations with you prior to valuing your goods. If at this point we feel that your expected return is achievable we will absolutely honour your request.

Ultimately it is our responsibility to professionally value your goods and ensure that a realistic and achievable offer is presented to you that takes into consideration several influencing factors such as market comparisons, when an agreement is being drawn up.

We will work with you to decide on a satisfactory valuation, and we will inform you if in our professional and informed opinion we feel that:

  • Your expected $ outcome is not achievable; or
  • You can afford to increase your expectations for a better $ outcome; or
  • Your goods are not suitable for consignment or are not in demand.

However, you are absolutely entitled to refuse our valuation and/or recommendations. We do not pressure customers into selling their goods if our service or advice does not align with their expectations.

Do you guarantee a sale?

While we are familiar with what is in demand, and what we consign as a result, we still cannot guarantee your goods will sell within the prescribed 90-day period. Simply because demand for second-hand is subjective and there are many variables at play; seasonal, socio-economic and environmental factors, just to name a few.

This is why we like to be transparent and to provide real-time comparisons and advice so you can decide if it’s the right time to consign your goods with us. It’s neither in your interests or our own to have your goods consigned if it’s not the right timing, or if demand for these goods simply isn’t there from our target market.

We do offer an extended consignment period beyond the 90 days, particularly for high ticket items.

Do you consign retail stock?

We welcome collaborations with ethical retailers, suppliers and wholesalers of premium fashion products, home goods and art. We will consider proposals offering to consign stock for recirculation, such as imperfect stock and new old stock/deadstock, as this closely aligns with our closed loop commitment.
